Laboratory Assistant – Food Science / Microbiology

Position: Lab Assistant
Location: Lidcombe
Pay Rate: $50.23 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday – Flexible Day & Afternoon shifts

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support the delivery of accurate, timely and high-quality laboratory testing services. This role is critical in ensuring smooth laboratory operations, maintaining compliance standards, and supporting product quality and food safety objectives.

The successful candidate will perform preparation and testing of samples, report results to stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and broader business.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct sample preparation, testing and basic equipment calibration
• Record and communicate accurate test results
• Support product release processes and escalate out-of-specification results
• Maintain compliant documentation and adhere to safety and regulatory standards

About You

• Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry or related field
• Hands-on lab experience with strong basic lab skills
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and communication skills
• Able to work independently and within a team

Skills & Experience

• Demonstrated laboratory experience

• Proficiency in core laboratory techniques including pipetting, weighing and measuring

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and explain test findings

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders

• Strong time-management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
